It was the Excellence Initiative’s aim to promote and advance top-level research in order to improve Germany’s competitive advantages and visibility as an outstanding location for research.

The temporary Excellence Initiative has been replaced by the permanent fixture of the Excellence Strategy, ensuring stable funding procedures for the time to come.

Graduate schools, and thus the FSGS, will no longer be funded under the regulations of the Excellence Strategy.
