Linguistics
Linguistics as an academic discipline studies language as a universal human phenomenon. Our bachelor’s program focuses on the English language in its global and local practices at all levels of linguistic description. In particular, we focus on the study of grammatical structures, of change and variation, of the historical dimension of the English language and of the use of English in its various social contexts across the world. All linguists at our Institute / at the Institute for English Language and Literature are actively involved in the Interdisciplinary Center for European Languages (iZEUS) and its study programs (B.A. Language and Society, M.A. Linguistics). Accordingly our linguistics classes regularly embed the study of the diverse linguistic practices of English into the relevant social, transnational and cross-linguistic contexts.
