Comparing languages and comparing theories: Generative Grammar and Construction Grammar
This two-day workshop is organized by the Interdisciplinary Centre 'European Languages - Structures - Development - Comparison' (ZEUS). It aims at bringing together a number of leading scholars as well as young researchers either within new generative approaches (minimalism, cartography, among others) or constructional approaches. In accordance with the main goals of our Interdisciplinary Centre, the talks will be concerned with the issue of language comparison: Speakers will be guided by the question if and why the framework presented is particularly appropriate for (i) language comparison, and/or (ii) language change. In the last part of the workshop, a discussion panel is planned in which workshop participants and invited guests, will extend the dialogue to language acquisition and cognitive science / neuroscience.
There will be a modest workshop fee (standard: EUR 10, students: EUR 5) for coffee breaks and printing costs to be paid on arrival (Friday, 26th, 9-9.30 at the entrance of lecture auditorium HS 1b). For organisational reasons, it will be necessary to register in advance to attend the workshop. Due to number limitations of the conference rooms we would recommend that you register as soon as possible (preferably before October 5th).
