With its numerous research projects, its involvement and partial leadership in the major collaborative research centers and interdisciplinary centers in the humanities at Freie Universität, and the commitment of its members to the Dahlem Humanities Center, the Institute of Romance Philology is an exceptionally strong research department.

The Institute is also committed to communicating its expertise to a broader public: Lecture series, contributions to the Long Night of the Sciences, collaborations with Berlin schools, etc. represent only a small sample.
